How to Beat Margit The Fell Omen in Elden Ring

If you’ve landed on this page you’re currently trying to beat Margit The Fell Omen. This is the first mandatory boss fight in Elden Ring and they are one tough cookie and undeniably the first significant challenge in the game. The reason why Margit is such a difficult boss is to incentivize you to turn back. Therefore, you feel compelled to search the first open-world area for more loot.

You will need a few items to make this boss fight easier, but for the most part, the higher your level is, the easier this fight will become. Therefore, we recommend you grind out some Runes to level up to level thirty. Also, upgrade your primary weapon to +2 or +3 levels to increase their effectiveness. You can do this at the smithing table at the Church of Elleh.

Preparing to Beat Margit the Fell Omen in Elden Ring

The first thing you need to defeat Margit is to get the Jellyfish summon. The Jellyfish summon will take a lot of hits for you and deal poison damage to Margit. Both will make the challenge of defeating Margit much easier.

You can find the Jellyfish summon when you talk to the Red Hooded Woman in the Stormhill Shack a few times. You will have passed the Stormhill Shack on your way to the castle. There is a site of grace there as well. The picture above shows the exact location on the map.

Additionally, you can find Margit’s shackles from an NPC named Patches. You need to find battle patches in the location pictured above. Make sure you spare Patches. This option happens when half of his health bar has been depleted. All you need to do is stop attacking him.

After this battle, you can buy Margit’s Shackles for 5000 Runes. This item is optional, and not super helpful. It can be used twice in the first phase of the Margit Boss Fight, and then it is useless. It will open up Margit to lots of damage early on. It’s up to you if you think this will be helpful as you attempt to beat Margit, The Fell Omen.

Should You Summon Allies Online?

It does not make as much of a difference as you would think. When other players join your fight, the health bar for Margit will adjust accordingly. So he does not technically become easier to fight, but a more experienced friend might give you that extra leg up. Either way works, but going on your own is not as difficult as it may seem.

There are two phases in the fight with Margit. The first phase is when Margit is using his staff to attack you. The second phase is when he uses his hammer to attack you. We found that the best method to beating Margit is to memorize his attacks and dodge accordingly. Then, in his moments of rest, getting a few hits in.

The secret to beating Margit is using your dodge and learning the timing of his attacks. The only way to learn this is through trial and error, but don’t be discouraged because you will eventually figure it out.

Right at the start of the fight, summon your Jellyfish spirit. In the first phase, get close to Margit and use your dodge to avoid sweeping attacks with his staff. After he’s done making his moves, slice him one or two times with your primary weapon. If you have Margit’s Shackle, now is the time to use it.

You will enter phase two when Margit pulls out his hammer. When he does this, immediately change your strategy from being up close and personal to maintaining a healthy distance from Margit. After Margit does his heavy attack, you will have a few moments to roll towards him and get in a couple of attacks. Do not get greedy, after one or maybe two attacks, roll away and regain your distance.

Margit will also throw some objects at you. If you time your dodges right, you can dodge them.
