A GitHub user may have found evidence that Ubisoft plans to bring the Assassin’s Creed franchise back to Steam.

YoobieRE discovered that a recent update for the source code on the latest Assassin’s Creed game, Valhalla, references the Steam platform. Valhalla is one of the few Assassin’s Creed games not on the Steam platform. Ubisoft has instead been launching its new games on the Epic Games Store

One advance of Ubisoft games appearing on Steam once more is the ability to play them with a Steam Deck. “We’re happy to see Steam Deck coming to the industry,” said Yves Guillemot, founder and CEO of Ubisoft, last year. “It shows that there’s a continuous flow of very innovative new hardware coming to the market. We’ll look and see how big it becomes, but if it’s big enough we’ll be able to put our games on it.”

There are several Assassin’s Creed games currently in development by Ubisoft. Recently announced Assassin’s Creed Mirage is a return to the franchise’s roots. The original Assassin’s Creed title serves as inspiration and a point of reference as the series is looking to escape its open-world RPG tropes.

Ubisoft has yet to comment publicly on the future of Assassin’s Creed on Steam.
