Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Scheduled For September Release Date

A remaster of the 2012 action RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has been confirmed for release later this year. The new version is called Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, and it will arrive on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 this September. THQ Nordic has also provided details about Fatesworn, a brand new expansion for the game that will release sometime in 2021.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will reintroduce the MMO style of the original to current-gen consoles with updated visuals, refined gameplay, and brand new content. It’s currently slated for a September 8 release date. At the time of writing, no official release date has been revealed for the Fatesworn expansion, which will take place after the main game. Although gameplay hasn’t yet been revealed, you can watch the game’s cinematic trailer below.

The original single-player open world adventure followed the exploits of the “Fateless One” through the Faelands, one of the kingdoms of Amalur. The player explores the game as the Fateless One, gaining allies and defeating mystical enemies throughout the story-rich campaign. Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was best known by fans for its unmatched level of character customization and player choice, all while traversing the five distinct playable regions wielding various weapons, abilities, and magic.

Re-Reckoning seeks to take players from the vibrant city of Rathir to the grim dungeons of the Brigand Hall Caverns as they uncover the secrets of Amalur. The remaster has been designed to bring MMO style and features to a single-player experience. Whether or not the remaster plans to be an MMO or implement multiplayer compatibility is yet to be seen.

The original Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was first released by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games back in 2012, with plans of a MMO within the same world being in the works. However, due to financial difficulties and 38 Studios eventually filing bankruptcy, those companies no longer own rights to the game’s IP. THQ Nordic eventually bought those rights in 2018, thus reviving hope for the franchise’s future.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning is currently available for preorder from the game’s official website. It can be purchased in Standard Edition, Fate Edition, or Collector’s Edition. The Standard Edition consists of the base game alone, while the Fate Edition includes the Fatesworn expansion. The Collector’s Edition includes a detailed figurine, a custom Amalur keychain, five pieces of original in-game artwork, the award-winning game soundtrack composed by Grant Kirkhope, and a unique Collector’s Box.
