According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the highly anticipated KOTOR remake has been delayed.

Announced last year, the Knights of the Old Republic remake is in development at Aspyr Media and Saber Interactive. As one of the best Star Wars games and best BioWare games, fans were excited to get a chance to re-live the timeless RPG classic once more.

Unfortunately, it is indefinitely delayed instead of learning more about the remake in the near future.

Schreier reports that a game demo was shown to Lucasfilm Ltd. LLC and Sony Group Corp. The KOTOR remake development team was excited and confident in the state of the game.

The following week, design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor were fired. Minor’s Twitter is currently private, but the Bloomberg report suggests that his firing was not expected.

Aspyr Studio heads reportedly told staff that the demo “Wasn’t where they wanted it to be and that the project would be paused.” Further reporting says, based on one person familiar with these discussions, that a “disproportionate amount of time and money” went into the KOTOT remake demo. The project was no longer sustainable when considering its current direction.

Initially, Aspyr was hoping to release the Knights of the Old Republic remake by the end of this year. That’s no longer feasible; the current target, according to developers, is 2025.

If you’re itching to play Knights of the Old Republic but don’t want to wait three years to play the KOTOR remake, you’re in luck. The game is available on Steam for $9.99. KOTOR II – The Sith Lords, developed by Obsidian Entertainment, is also on Steam. It will also cost you $9.99.
