Overwatch 2 launched on October 4th, 2022. Thanks to a series of DDOS attacks, however, it hasn’t been smooth sailing.

Mike Ybarra, President of Blizzard Entertainment, addressed the issue on Twitter yesterday. Fans were hoping to get in some games when the servers went live, but thanks to some Overwatch 2 DDOS attacks, that wasn’t the case.

“Teams are working hard on server issues with Overwatch 2,” Ybarra said in a tweet. “We are humbled by the excitement of players and will continue to focus on issues and get players into the fun! Thanks for your patience.” A half-hour later, he confirmed the Overwatch 2 DDOS attacks were taking place.

“Unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers. Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues.”

Early this morning, Aaron Keller of the Overwatch 2 team gave an update regarding the server status.

“We’re steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack. We’re all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night. Thank you for your patience – we’ll share more info as it becomes available.”

It’s important to know that the Overwatch 2 DDOS attacks appear separate from one of the game’s currently known issues. Blizzard Entertainment is aware of players suffering from the “Unexpected Server Error” issue and is working to fix it.

The OverwatchEU Twitter account said the following just a few hours ago:

Even before the game’s launch, Overwatch 2 had concerns. The game’s Lead Hero Designer left the company earlier this year

Overwatch 2 is available now for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. We prepared a basic primer earlier this year for more information on the game.
