With Blizzard’s Overwatch 2 now in the hands of millions of players worldwide, there’s one thing that everyone wants: an Overwatch 2 hero tier list.
The competition is heating up as everyone adapts to the new meta. New heroes, balance adjustments, and new maps shook things up. We even have a new competitive game mode called “Push.” A lot has changed.
Whether or not these updates are better or worse for Overwatch, that decision will be left up to you.
When putting together our Overwatch 2 hero tier list, I took many factors into my decision-making. This includes a hero’s overall power level, effectiveness, Overwatch League, map advantage, etc.
Let’s talk Overwatch 2 heroes!
Overwatch Heroes: S-Tier
SOJOURN
This DPS hero is insane and an absolute menace at all levels of play. Sojourn’s great damage output and mobility rival some of the best characters in the game.
Her railgun will have you racking up confirmed kills faster than any other hero. Combo Sojourn’s primary and secondary fire with her abilities too. Power slide grants her crazy movement, and disruptor shot hits multiple enemies at once, which you can spam into the opposing team during engagements.
When Sojourn activates her ultimate Overclock, her kill potential goes through the roof. This is why she tops our Overwatch Hero tier list.
KIRIKO
If there’s any support hero that’s a must-play in your team composition right now, it’s Kiriko. This ninja has been wreaking havoc on all of her enemies since Overwatch 2 came out. She’s highly mobile and can use that strength with her protective abilities. That makes her tricky to take down and risky to engage.
Take two kunai to the head, and it’s a wrap for most DPS and support heroes. Kiriko’s ultimate, Kitsune Rush, can easily overwhelm the enemy team because it accelerates your firing rate, movement, and cooldown. She may be the newest of the Overwatch 2 heroes, but Kirko packs quite the punch.
WIDOWMAKER
Widowmaker now has one less tank to deal with, thanks to the Overwatch 2 team composition rework.
In addition, the new maps are more open, playing into the hero’s strength. She can decimate enemy teams singlehandedly if left uncontested.
Never sleep on this hero, EVER!
SOMBRA
After a large number of buffs to her entire kit, Sombra has never been stronger.
She can stay invisible forever, and her hack is even more oppressive than before. If she hacks your tank, it hurts so much more now.
Not even your DPS or support heroes are safe from that ability. Getting ambushed by Sombra nine times out of ten means death.
LUCIO
The greatest thing about Lucio is how unique he is.
No one in the game can heal and speed up the team from their tactical abilities alone. Lucio is extremely versatile as well. You can play him offensively or defensively. It doesn’t matter what team composition you have.
Staying coordinated with Lucio on your team can win many games. That’s why we rank him highly on our Overwatch 2 hero tier list.
WINSTON
It’s time for our first tank on our tier list of Overwatch 2 heroes.
Winston will forever be one of the best tanks in the game. His mobility is incredible, and he can jump in and harass enemy support heroes, and battle in and out of his barrier.
His high survivability is amazing in dive team compositions.
D.VA
Our favorite mech pilot is still one of the greatest tanks in Overwatch 2.
While she does require an above-average level of skill to be competitive, D.Va can do it all. She’s very mobile, can single out enemies to rush down or eliminate, and protect her team with Defense Matrix.
The cherry on top is her Self-Destruct Ultimate which can team wipe or force the enemy team to run for safety.
Overwatch 2 Hero Tier List: A-Tier
TRACER
Tracer isn’t on the cover of Overwatch for no reason. She was S-Tier in the original Overwatch due to dive team compositions being unchecked for so long. It wasn’t until Brigitte came out and the crowd control meta emerged that her reign of terror finally ended.
This pushed Tracer and Genji out of the meta entirely.
Overwatch 2, however, decided to nearly remove all crowd control abilities from the game, allowing Tracer to return, albeit to a lesser degree.
GENJI
Whether you love him or hate him, Genji will most likely be in your team composition.
For those who can tap into his full potential as a character, he’s lethal for any low-health character. He’s also hard to hit because of how elusive he can be, which makes his survivability really good.
Since Genji can reflect enemy fire and combo you with Shuriken into Slash, engaging him in a 1v1 fight is risky. His Dragon Blade ultimate is still one of the deadliest ultimate abilities out of the entire hero roster.
SIGMA
What makes Sigma so strong is his entire kit as a whole.
This character has crazy primary fire damage compared to the other Overwatch 2 heroes. Being able to double-tap most DPS and support heroes and send them back to the spawn is nothing to scoff at. Sigma also has a barrier and can absorb incoming fire through his defensive tactics.
When he throws the boulder at you, it hinders your mobility for a short period when you get hit, which allows him to continue his assault.
ZARYA
Zarya is one of those characters where the longer the fight goes on, the stronger she becomes.
She used to have only one bubble she could use for herself or a teammate to charge up her laser. Now she has two, which adds to her mind games. Guess wrong, and there’s a good chance you’ll die fighting her personally or her ally. A
An argument can be made to put her in S-Tier on our Overwatch 2 hero tier list. Her lack of mobility in Overwatch 2 hurts more than in the first game.
JUNKER QUEEN
The queen of the wasteland lives up to her title.
Junker Queen is very strong, and you can see this fact due to how versatile she is. Her War Cry ability gives her team added health and better movement. She can even use her knife to pull in enemies and finish them off.
She’s one of, if not the most dangerous, tank to get into a brawl with. That goes for her team as well. Close-range combat is where she excels, so be careful. Her ultimate, Rampage, also prevents the enemy team from healing themselves while applying damage over time.
I won’t say it’s too good, but it’s definitely too good.
ANA
Ana will always be a good character because she has the best burst healing in the game.
She can take an enemy team member out of the fight with Sleep Dart, use Biotic Grenade to prevent her enemies from healing, and activate Nano Boost to wipe out the enemy team or save one of your key teammates.
She’s highly skill-dependent and requires your team to be coordinated. You’ll be rewarded handsomely if you and your team can do it.
BAPTISTE
Baptiste is a great support hero to have at the beginning of a team fight before ultimate abilities emerge.
His healing output is really good, and Immortality Field helps a bunch in brawls or to save a wounded teammate. That ultimate ability category is the only area that falls short. Amplification Matrix can be very situational, sadly.
You can’t go wrong with everything else, though. Baptiste is one of the more well-rounded Overwatch 2 heroes.
Overwatch Heroes: B-Tier
REINHARDT
Reinhardt is a good tank hero in terms of character design, ease of use, and a simple game plan. He can shield your team, pressure them with Fire Strike, and wait for the opportunity to Earth Shatter.
However, nothing about him stands out besides his barrier, and it only has 1200 health.
Reinhardt leans heavily on his squad to get a pick off the enemy team before his barrier goes down. If it’s too late, he becomes a bullet sponge.
BRIGITTE
Despite all of the nerfs she received in Overwatch 1, she’s actually in a good place right now.
Brigitte’s passive ability, Inspire, heals her team much better than before.
You’ll only see her being used in brawl-style team compositions because everything else has been nerfed.
ORISA
Orisa has gone through a HUGE evolution since Overwatch 1.
The development team really did a phenomenal job reworking Orisa’s character. She is now less stationary and more offensively based. Her rework is one of the more successful ones for Overwatch 2 heroes.
She has new abilities, a new ultimate, and knockback reduction, which is awesome! Moving her up from C-Tier to B was an excellent choice.
SOLDIER 76
I have a lot of respect for Soldier 76.
Mobility? Check! Damage? Check! Survivability? Check! Tactical Visor is still a good ultimate, too.
The only issue with him is that, while he has some of everything, he doesn’t particularly excel at anything. He’s good, not great, which places him in the middle of our Overwatch 2 hero tier list.
REAPER
For those who enjoy flanking and sneaking up on their enemies, Reaper is one of the best heroes to choose from.
If you get in close, there’s a good chance you’ll kill the enemy. Afterward, you try to escape by going ghost to repeat the process. Just be prepared to risk your life when you attempt to execute his game plan.
HANZO
The archer certainly earns his place in B-Tier on our Overwatch hero tier list.
He’s no Widowmaker, but he can still headshot you from afar. Storm Arrows are great for close combat, too.
If you have good accuracy, you should definitely consider using him.
SYMMETRA
This hero is highly underrated.
The reason is that Symmetra requires the player to coordinate with her team. To unlock her full potential, you need a decent knowledge of the chokepoints on various maps and play opportunistically.
Those who don’t respect Symmetra’s strong keep-out game will fall victim to it.
TORBJORN
Torbjorn is one of the more well-rounded Overwatch 2 heroes. This is thanks to his reworks compared to the Overwatch 1 version.
You can play him offensively and defensively. When he goes Nolten Core, though, he’s dangerous to engage at close range because of the large amount of damage he can deal.
He has good area denial through this turret and ultimate as well.
ECHO
I considered putting this character in A-Tier, but you can really feel the nerfs to her entire kit.
Echo’s versatility is still good enough to land her in B-Tier. You can never underestimate this hero. Her threat level is still above average.
ASHE
The leader of the deadlock gang shows no mercy.
She has all the benefits of a hit scan hero, while her Dynamite does good burn damage. Ashe can also play keep away with her shotgun. You’ll typically see Ashe in the backline or at a high vantage point on the map.
Between her and Cassidy, Ashe is the better option right now.
JUNKRAT
If you’re playing on a small map with choke points, Junkrat is a great hero pick.
His damage output is some of the best in the game, plus he’s dangerous to approach.
However, he suffers on more open maps, so you really need to work hard to land those projectile shots.
PHARAH
Pharah still rules the skies but to a lesser degree.
You can’t abuse flight anymore and have to use it sparingly. She’s also easier to counter because of this.
Pharah is a threat if left uncontested, though, because “Pharmacy” is still a viable strategy.
MERCY
She offers consistent heals, and Mercy’s Resurrection is always a good thing.
The issue is that Mercy is vulnerable when she heals or Power Boosts her teammates. In a fast pace steam roll heavy game like Overwatch 2, Mercy’s allies won’t always be able to defend her. There are better Overwatch 2 heroes to choose from.
MOIRA
Good heals, damage, and mobility will always make Moira a solid pick.
She requires the player to have good judgment on when to deal damage, heal, or disengage from a fight. You need to find a healthy balance every match.
Making a mistake at the wrong time with her specifically can cost your team an engagement.
ZENYATTA
Zenyatta’s lack of mobility hurts, but his primary fire and discord orb make up for that.
Transcendence is still one of the best healing ultimate abilities out of any of the healer Overwatch 2 heroes.
Overwatch 2 Hero Tier List: C-Tier
CASSIDY
McCree, I mean Cassidy, is still hurting because his Flash Bang was removed.
He leans heavily on his gunplay now, with two mediocre tactical abilities to barely help. This is one of the worst Overwatch 2 heroes you can play right now.
MEI
Mei can’t freeze her enemies anymore, which hurts her character immensely.
She has more damage, but flanking with her isn’t worth it anymore.
You lean more heavily on correctly placing her wall to split up the enemy and capitalize.
BASTION
Bastion’s rework makes him even more reliant on his positioning. Having good synergy with your team and being opportunistic is vital to success.
On more open maps, you can’t exactly abuse turret mode like in the past. This places Bastion firmly in the C-tier for our Overwatch 2 hero tier list.
ROADHOG
Hook, shoot, and melee. That’s all you have to do.
Unfortunately, Roadhog has to take more risk in Overwatch 2 because he can easily get farmed for Ultimate charge and team fights are more head-to-head in this game. Sadly, this means you can’t abuse flanking.
Roadhog wasn’t designed to be the main tank either, making him way more dependent on your skill as a player.
HAMMOND
Let me know when you find someone who knows how to play this hero.
Hammond is an off-tank designed to disrupt the enemy team, but that’s easier said than done. Moving from 6v6 to 5v5 really hurt him.
With the new player size, he easily suffers more than any of the Overwatch 2 heroes.
Overwatch Heroes: D-Tier
DOOMFIST
Don’t pick this hero until Blizzard fixes him.
He’s been nerfed into the ground and made a tank. Doomfist’s mobility and defensive abilities are also terrible.
Wrapping Up Our Overwatch 2 Hero Tier List
