Shin Megami Tensei v Sales Highest in Series

Atlus, developers of hits like Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, announced today that Shin Megami Tensei V has sold 1 million copies worldwide. These sales account for both physical and digital copies, and is a high for the series. 

The game reached 800,000 just a few months ago, and it’s sold at a much faster rate than the previous game, Shin Megami Tensei IV. The series’s fourth entry sold 600,000 copies over two years. It’s safe to say that the popularity of Persona 5 and Persona 5 Royal likely helped bolster attention to the series.

In celebration of the game’s milestone, the game’s character designer Masayuki Doi created a special illustration of the game’s main character to celebrate.

Shin Megami Tensei V was originally released on November 11, 2011. It features a much larger world than the past entries. While not quite an open-world game, its size and scope allow for more freedom and exploration than ever before. 

The game follows the main character, who merges with a god-like being. You must journey through a post-apocalyptic Tokyo known as Da’at, a mystical world filled with mythical deities and tyrants. There are several impactful choices to make throughout the game and plenty of dungeons to explore. Throughout the game, you’ll be able to forge your own path with these choices in a battle between light and dark to dictate the fate of the world.

The game features turn-based battles and its own form of creature collecting with its demon recruitment mechanic. The Shin Megami Tensei series is notoriously difficult, and this entry is no exception. 

The game is easily the best in the series and one of the best JRPGs in recent years.

Shin Megami Tensei V is currently available to purchase exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
