If you’re a fan of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Thymesia might be right up your alley. Today, Team17 and OverBorder Studio announced that the punishing action RPG would release on August 9, 2022. Originally, the next-gen game’s release date was in December 2021. They also released a bloody good trailer full of blood, scythes, grotesque monsters, and disease.
Thymesia follows the mysterious Corvus. As disease and plagues sweep through the land, one kingdom, Hermes, found success in wielding alchemy to create cures to these deadly ailments. Years later, however, the kingdom’s soldiers mutated into monsters after an attempt was made to stop the use of alchemy. It’s up to amnesiac Corvus to unravel the mystery.
Thymesia features a Plague Weapon System where you can steal diseases from the horrifying creatures you defeat. The plague mask-wearing Corvus can morph into his raven form to devastate enemies. Each playthrough will be unique depending on the build you make based on your preferred playstyle.
As you play through the game, you’ll be able to recover Corvus’s memories. His memories will help you save the kingdom, and you’ll find them as you move forward in your adventure. Stitching these together will help you uncover the truth surrounding the Kingdom of Hermes.
Currently, Thymesia can be added to your wishlist on Steam. Ahead of its release, the game has a limited demo available now until May 9. In it, expect to learn some of the game’s mechanics, fight through enemies, and even get a chance to take on one of the game’s first bosses.
If you’re looking for a game of similar caliber, Blasphemous from Team17 is out on PlayStation Now. This and the other games released for May are the last before the new PlayStation subscription service begins.
Thymesia will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on August 9.
