Splatoon 3 Change Gender - How to Swap Characters

The first choice players have to make when customizing their character in Splatoon 3 is whether to play as an Inkling or Octoling. Put another way, it’s a matter of choosing between squid or octopus. Both are excellent choices, but you’ll almost certainly prefer one over the other, especially given what they can do when they change to their animal counterparts in a match. That’s why in this guide we’ll explain how to change your gender between the two character types.

How to Change Gender in Splatoon 3

You can’t technically change your gender in Splatoon 3, but you can swap from Octoling or Inkling. To do this, make sure you’re in the main game lobby and go to the menu by pressing X on your Nintendo Joy-Con or Pro Controller. Then slide over to the Options tab using your right bumper and select Other. From there, go down and select Player Settings.

At this point, a pop-up will appear asking if you want to change your look; select Yeah. This will bring you back to the beginning character customization you got at the start of the game. The two-character models on the left are Inkling character models, and the two on the right are Octoling character models. This is effectively how to change your gender. More specifically, it allows you to choose your character type, assuming you’re not happy with the one selected. From there, you can change your character’s appearance, such as hair, hairstyle, hair color, and wardrobe.

The choice of which one to pick comes down to personal preference. Inklings can turn into squids in-game and covertly swim in pools of paint. Octolings take the form of an octopus and maximize their paint output with more tentacles. You can switch between the two any time just as we outlined above, so it’s worth trying out both till you find the one you like the most.
