The Best Witcher 3 Mods You Should Be Playing in 2022

Despite being almost six years old at this point, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains one of the most popular RPGs around. And for good reason. But after replaying the game for the tenth time, things will inevitably start to get a bit dull. Luckily, there are plenty of great Witcher 3 mods out there you can download to make the game feel fresh again.

While The Witcher 3 doesn’t have nearly as many mods as games like Skyrim, there are still several thousands of them to choose from. Chances are you probably don’t have time to try out the vast majority of them, so why not save yourself some time and just read the rest of this article instead?

Down below you can find a list of the best Witcher 3 mods currently available. We’ll make sure to update the list whenever an interesting new mod comes out so check back often.

Gameplay

Fast travel from anywhere

Tired of having to search for a signpost whenever you want to fast travel? Simply download this mod and you won’t have to worry about that anymore. Just as its name suggests, Fast Travel from Anywhere lets Geralt fast travel without using a signpost. That’s pretty much all there is to it.

It works while you’re in the wilderness. It works while you’re in the city. And it works while you’re in a dark cave full of monsters. It works anywhere and it’s one of the best Witcher 3 mods for those looking to make their playthroughs less time-consuming.

Slots slots slots

I’m sure you’ve already figured out what this one is all about. The mod adds a bunch of new skill and mutagen slots to play around with while also allowing you to activate any number of mutations simultaneously. You can add over 100 new skill slots and transform Geralt into an absolute god in the process. Or, you can just add a couple to make the witcher only a little bit stronger than usual. The choice is up to you.

To accommodate the plethora of extra slots, the mod adds new GUI tabs to the character menu. The number of tabs you can access varies depending on which version of the mod you install. You’ll need to go with the Balanced version if you want to prevent Geralt from getting too overpowered. If you want to take advantage of this mod’s full potential, however, make sure to pick the Ultimate version.

Slots Slots SLOTS is one of the more complex Witcher 3 mods on this list. Make sure to follow the instructions found on the mod page to the letter if you want to install it and configure it properly.

Auto apply oils

Just like Geralt himself, titles of most Witcher 3 mods are short and to the point. This mod does exactly what it says on the tin and automatically applies oils for you whenever you get into combat. The mod applies the oils that are most effective against the enemies you’re facing and works without having to open the inventory.

Auto Apply Oils does take away some of the charm of being a witcher but is a great mod to have for those who have already completed the game and want to speed things up for their next playthrough.

Autoloot

Autoloot is one of those features that should be present in every open-world RPG by this point. It’s not something you can find in the vanilla version of The Witcher 3, but you can easily add it in with this simple mod.

AutoLoot lets you pick up all items from containers and corpses in one go using a simple press of a button. The mod can be configured in a variety of ways, allowing you to autoloot only specific types of items, such as weapons or herbs for example. You can also set it to autoloot only items of a certain weight.

There are a couple of different versions of this mod and they do more or less the same thing. But if you want the one with the greatest number of configuration options, we recommend getting the AutoLoot Configurable All-In-One mod.

Better trophies

Better Trophies is hands down one of our favorite Witcher 3 mods out there. The mod replaces vanilla trophy bonuses with new ones. Each trophy gets a unique bonus along with a 5% bonus damage against enemies of the same type.

Some of the bonuses are a bit overpowered, like the one you get from Gravehags that gives Quen a 40% chance to reflect incoming projectiles. For the most part, though, the new trophy bonuses are balanced and way more interesting than the vanilla ones.

Disable storybook videos

This mod disables the recap videos that pop up every time you load the game. That’s a great feature to have if you’re past your first playthrough or you find yourself reloading often. If not, it’s probably best not to disable them because they contain interesting story details. But the choice is ultimately up to you.

Textures and Visuals

The witcher 3 HD reworked project

Next up we have one of the largest and most popular Witcher 3 mods out there. A fairly straightforward upscaling mod, The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project aims to greatly improve the visual fidelity of the game without touching anything else.

The mod brings to the table 4K textures, increased draw distances, better levels of detail for many objects, and more. The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project improves upon everything from water and vegetation to wildlife and NPCs. This mod makes everything look a lot better than in the vanilla version and is a must-have if you’re playing the game in 2022.

Of course, installing all those pretty new textures may affect your performance if you’re playing on an old rig. But if you’re rocking at least a GTX 970 or better you shouldn’t experience any performance issues even while playing at max settings.

High quality faces

You can already make everything in the game look a bit nicer by using The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, however, that won’t be enough to get the best possible looking NPCs. For that you’re going to need a couple more mods, starting with High Quality Faces.

This mod increases the LOD (level of detail), draw distance, and overall quality of most NPC faces by a significant amount. The mod covers the vast majority of characters found in the game with the exception of a handful of NPCs from Hearts of Stone. Since the mod only affects faces, you shouldn’t see any performance drops after installing it.

If you want to focus on making NPCs look even better, you can also find a wide variety of Witcher 3 mods that let you customize body proportions, hairstyles, makeup, and more. Most of these mods are NSFW so we’re not going to cover them here, but you can easily find them on NexusMods.

Hdmr – HD monsters reworked

HDMR is a graphical mod that bumps up the textures of all monsters in the game, making them look crisper, and more dangerous, than ever. The textures go up to 4K resolution but you can pick some smaller ones if you want to avoid any possible FPS drops, especially if you’re already using other texture mods. HDMR is compatible with mods like HD Reworked Project but you’ll need to make sure that it has higher priority than other texture mods.

Lore-friendly witchers

Anyone who has played through the entire trilogy knows that Geralt became increasingly better looking with each installment. That’s obviously not a bad thing, however, it’s not exactly lore-friendly either. Witchers are supposed to be pale and sickly-looking mutants that aren’t particularly pleasant to look at it. That’s not really the case in The Witcher 3, though, especially when it comes to Geralt.

Lore-Friendly Witchers aims to remedy that by making Geralt and his kin look more like mutants, complete with paler skin, more prominent scars, and darker eye circles. You can also expect Witchers to have striking cat-like eyes with this mod. The mod author initially planned to make Geralt’s pupils adaptive to light and toxicity levels but it looks like that feature was eventually canned.

Henry cavill witcher 3 mods

We’re lumping these together because they all have the same goal – to make Geralt look like Henry Cavill from the Netflix Witcher show. The best-looking mod of the bunch is probably Henry Cavill Netflix Geralt but there are a bunch of others that come pretty close, so just pick whichever one you think is best. To complete the look, you’ll also want to get the Henry Cavill Netflix Clothes mod.

If you want to take things one step further, you can also grab mods that replace Yennefer’s face with that of Anya Chalotra. Similar mods are available for Ciri, Triss, and a bunch of other characters. Basically, you can make almost anyone in the Witcher 3 look like their TV show counterpart. I personally wouldn’t, but to each their own.

Blood

The Witcher 3 already features quite a bit of gore but if you feel like decapitations and dismemberments aren’t enough, you can take things to the next level with BLOOD. The mod retextures blood to have a more spray-like appearance, allowing you to completely drench yourself in the stuff every time you step into battle. Combine that with the More Blood mod to essentially turn The Witcher 3 into a Tarantino movie.

Improved sign effects

We couldn’t find any good Witcher 3 mods that add new Signs but we did find the next best thing. Improved Sign Effects turns the intensity of Aard and Igni up to eleven, making the two offensive Signs look a lot more visually spectacular. Keep in mind that this is purely a visual change, so don’t expect the Signs to deal more damage.

Lighting and Weather

Super turbo lighting mod

Ever wished you could play the pre-downgrade build of The Witcher 3? You know, the famous one that was showcased during E3 2014. As it happens, you can recreate the art direction of that build pretty easily using a handful of mods, the most important of which is Super Turbo Lighting Mod.

STLM attempts to recreate the look of the 2014 demo by tweaking lighting, lens flare and fog values. That may not sound like a big deal, but those simple tweaks actually have a huge impact on the overall atmosphere of the game. Especially in areas like Novigrad and Velen.

Realistic weather

Pretty much what it says on the tin. The mod expands and improves the game’s weather system, as come across foggy weather a lot more often. Unfortunately, you’re likely to run into some issues if you install both Realistic Weather and Super Turbo Lighting Mod so it’s best to choose one or the other.

User Interface and Inventory

All quest objectives on map

This is a great quality of life mod that shows quest objectives on your map in a clean and neat way. Normally, you can only track a single quest objective at any one time, but with this mod you can track as many as you want. Additionally, the mod allows you to switch between currently tracked objectives directly from the map, as opposed to having to do it from the quest menu.

Another useful feature of this mod is its ability to track the location of all types of merchants. You can combine Quest Objectives on Map with the Colored Map Markers mod to assign different colors to different types of merchants. This makes it easier to find the specific type of merchant you need, especially in Novigrad where there are tons of them.

Friendly hud

The Witcher 3’s HUD is not the worst we’ve ever seen but it’s certainly not the best either. Icons and other visual elements can be found in every corner of the screen, making it hard to fully enjoy the wonderful world created by CDPR. For a more immersive experience, we strongly recommend getting the Friendly HUD mod.

The mod gives you full control over the game’s HUD and lets you configure it as you see fit. Or even completely get rid of it if you so choose. Friendly HUD also makes certain improvements to game menus and adds 3D markers for quest and NPC tracking, among other things.

But possibly the best part of this mod is that it can be configured from within the in-game options menu. This makes it a great choice for players who are new to Witcher 3 modding and don’t feel comfortable messing around with game files.

Over 9000 – weight limit mod

This mod is essentially a cheat so download it only if you’re not bothered by that sort of thing. What this mod does is change Geralt’s inventory limit to 9,000, ensuring that you’ll never have to deal with the over-encumbered effect ever again. There’s an alternative version to this mod that changes the limit to 120 instead of 9000, so make sure to grab that instead if you want to keep things balanced.

Items and Apparel

Amm – the appearances menu mod

The Witcher 3 doesn’t really give you a lot of chances to play dress-up because you’ll want to wear a full set of Witcher armor at all times. And the game only gives you a handful of them to choose from. But what if you could have tons more armors and outfits at your disposal? And what if you could wear anything you want without having to worry about stats? As it happens, that’s exactly what you get with this mod.

AMM introduces a new menu that can be used to quickly change Geralt’s beard, hair, clothes, weapons, and more. The mod gives you access to virtually any outfit found in the game while also adding some new ones. You can dress Geralt up as a vampire, knight in shining armor, wizard, bandit, and more. You can even have Geralt look like a member of the Wild Hunt if you want.

The best part is that all the customization is purely cosmetic. You can keep rocking a full set of Witcher armor for the stats while also looking like a pirate or an inquisitor or whatever else you can think of. As an added bonus, AMM also lets you customize Roach. AMM is easily one of the best Witcher 3 mods for those who enjoy roleplaying.

Geralt cloak

Geralt is often seen wearing a cloak in cinematics and storybook videos so it’s a bit strange that he can’t equip one in-game. Well, that’s no longer the case thanks to this mod.

You can choose to have Geralt wear either an entire cloak, just the cape, or just the hood. The default cloak is black but there are a couple of other colors to choose from. Not much more to say about this one. Just grab the cloak and make Geralt look like even more of a badass.

It’s worth noting that the previous mod also has some cloaks. Get this one only if you don’t want all the other customization options. Otherwise, it’s probably better to just go with AMM.

Indestructible items – no more weapon degradation

Another straightforward mod with a very straightforward name. The mod permanently sets the durability of Geralt’s weapons to 100% and repairs any previously damaged weapons as soon as they are equipped in combat. This also applies to armor. The mod makes it so that you never have to use the game’s repair mechanic ever again, which has some pros and cons depending on how much you care about immersion.

Misc

The witcher 3 mod manager

This is no longer as essential as it used to be back in the day because now we have Vortex, which allows you to manage the mods of all your games But if you want a mod manager just for The Witcher 3 for one reason or another, this is the one you’ll want to get. The manager is similar to the one you can get for Mass Effect Legendary Edition mods and should be compatible with most of the Witcher 3 mods found on Nexus.
