As the first season of The Last of Us winds down, many fans are eager to see what the future holds. Will a faithful adaptation of The Last of Us 2 be coming? Will the HBO show slow things down and split the sequel into multiple seasons? We’re not sure, but we might find out sooner rather than later.

Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel in the HBO series, is a busy man. Between The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, he will have to find time to make room for the second season of the hit HBO show.

This begs the question: when will The Last of Us season 2 begin filming? While nothing official has been discussed, Pascal brought the topic up during an interview with Collider:

“In the year 2023? Oh, what season are we in now? We’re getting into spring? Yes, there is a chance. Yes.”

While Pascal’s answer is vague, it does give hope that The Last of Us season 2 will begin filming sooner rather than later.

Neil Druckmann, the creator of the video game series for developer Naughty Dog, tweeted “Part II —> HBO” when HBO officially renewed the series in January.

The season finale of The Last of Us airs Sunday, March 12th, at 9:00 PM Eastern on HBO. There is no release date for The Last of Us season 2.
