CD PROJEKT RED announced today the development of The Witcher Remake. It is being made in Unreal Engine 5 and is in the early stages of development.

The Polish studio Fool’s Theory is handling development. CD PROJEKT RED is providing “full creative supervision.”

The Witcher Remake previously had the codename “Canis Majoris.” The game is reportedly a long way out, so don’t expect concrete details soon. The last entry in the franchise, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, was released in 2015.

Despite the long wait for a new game in the series, fans have enjoyed the Netflix show starring Henry Cavill. Its third season is currently in development

Earlier this year, CD PROJEKT RED announced a new entry in The Witcher franchise. Also being developed with Unreal Engine 5, that game will start “a new saga for the franchise.” This means there are two Witcher games currently in development: a new Witcher game, as well as The Witcher Remake.

“The Witcher is where it all started for us, for CD PROJEKT RED. It was the first game we made, ever, and it was a big moment for us then. Going back to this place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to experience it feels just as big, if not bigger,” said Adam Badowski, Head of Studio, CD PROJEKT RED in a press release. “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

There is no release date or announced platforms for The Witcher Remake.
