Titanfall 2’s battle royale drop in early 2019, mixed with stay-at-home pandemic numbers, and a loyal fanbase that have stuck with the platform, has helped push a surprising number of new downloads on Steam.

Respawn Entertainment has announced that Steam player count has jumped by 750 percent, even as many players flock to Apex Legends, and Valkyrie, which is about to drop Season 9.

The mix of single-player and multi-player options within Titanfall 2 has led to excellent reviews for the FPS. The game scores a solid 94.76% positive rating on Steam. Mix the positive reviews and consistent gameplay experience with a recent price drop and you’ve got a recipe for success.

It will be interesting to see how well the game holds up after Apex Legends drops its highly anticipated mobile port. There’s a possibility that the drop may help accelerate sales of Titanfall 2 since the game exists in the same universe as its popular FPS predecessor.

A roundtable held with developers and reported on by GameInformer has suggested that deeper integration between Titanfall and Apex Legends could be on the way. One developer remarked:

“Titanfall is a war story, Apex is life after the war; we’re trying to integrate Titanfall into that. We’re looking at what Titanfall means for this universe. It has lasting impacts that are going to become bigger and bigger.”

Will Titanfall eventually fall to Apex Legends or will there be a universe in which they not only co-exist but also complement each other? Only time will tell but we’re hoping for the latter.
