Valheim Events | All Raids and Enemies

Valheim Raid Event and Enemies Guide

The procedurally generated worlds within Valheim come with their own patterns of raids and enemies. No matter which world seed you visit, raids are all the same, though when exactly they’ll start usually varies in time and frequency. Thankfully, each of these events is tied to a unique message describing which enemies are raiding and how long they’ll spend attacking. With a little foresight, you’ll never be caught unprepared. Here’s a look at all of the different raid events in Valheim, including what causes them, which enemies they send your way, and how long they last.

Valheim Raid Events and Enemies

A word of warning: Raid events in Valheim show no mercy when it comes to your character. The game is already unforgiving, but raiding enemies will direct their sole attention toward you. That’s why it’s important to craft the best armor, keep a few weapons handy, and stay topped up on food. It also helps to have a companion nearby, especially to use as a distraction. Nevertheless, make sure you’re always ready for a fight, because raid events strike randomly once their prerequisites have been met.

Eikthyr Rallies the Creatures of the Forest

Biomes: Meadows or Black Forest

In the game’s easiest raid, small waves of Boars and Necks will attack your base for 90 seconds. Fight them off until you see the message: “The creatures are calming down.”

As the most basic raid in Valheim, this one begins to occur simply after starting a new world. It will continue to occur until you defeat the first boss, Eikthyr.

The Forest is Moving…

Biomes: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, or Plains

After you defeat Eikthyr, you’ll start to get attacked by waves of Greydwarfs, Greydwarf Brutes, and Greydwarf Shamans. This raid will run for 120 seconds and concludes with the message: “The forest rests again.”

To stop this raid event, you need to bring down the second boss, The Elder.

A Foul Smell from the Swamp

Biomes: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain or Plains

Draugr and Skeletons will be the next wave of enemies to attack, and their raid lasts 150 seconds. It will end with the message: “The smell is gone.”

This raid is triggered by Bonemass, who you must defeat in order to stop Swamp creatures from invading.

Valheim Draugr Raid Event

A Cold Wind Blows from the Mountains

Biomes: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Mountain or Plains

Beware of freezing Drakes when you encounter this raid, which will run for 150 seconds. You can start to relax once you see the message: “The cold wind is gone.”

To stop the Drakes from attacking, you’ll have to strap on your cold weather gear, head into the Mountains, and defeat Moder.

The Horde is Attacking

Biomes: Meadows, Black Forest, or Plains

The fifth primary base raid throws Fulings, Fuling Berserkers, and Fuling Fhamans at you for 120 seconds. Fight until you see the message: “The horde is retreating.”

You can prevent any further raids from Fulings by defeating the final boss, Yagluth.

The Ground is Shaking

Biomes: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, or Plains

Things get dangerous with this one, as Trolls will try to stomp you out for a duration of 80 seconds. Roll your way to safety, being sure keep them away from structures, until you see this message: “The shakes start to fade.”

This raid is a byproduct of the death of The Elder, but can also be caused by killing Trolls. However, like other events caused by the death of bosses, this raid continues to occur throughout the rest of the game. The only way to avoid it is by staying out of the biomes in which it triggers.

A Foul Smell from the Swamp

Biomes: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, or Plains

The slimy Blobs and Oozers will snail their way toward you for 120 seconds. Avoid or slash your way through them until you see the message: “The smell is gone.”

The arrival of these gross monsters is a byproduct of the death of the Bonemass. You can’t ever stop this raid, but you can avoid it by staying in the Mountains.

Skeleton Surprise

Biome: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, Plains, or Mistlands

During this raid event, the boney undead will rise for 120 seconds until they are literally “tired of fighting.”

These shambling marauders come as an aftereffect of the demise of Bonemass. Again, the only way to avoid it is to stick to the right biomes. The Skeletons don’t seem to like the cold of the Mountains.

Valheim Skeleton Raid Event

There’s a Smell of Sulfur in the Air

Biome: Meadows, Black Forest, Swamp, or Plains

This raid can get messy, since it’s full of Surtlings hurling explosives with reckless abandon. Their needlessly destructive attacks will continue 120 seconds until the following message is displayed: “The smell is fading.”

The raid can be caused by the death of Bonemass or the death of multiple Surtlings. It will continue to occur after Bonemass is defeated, but you can avoid it by hanging out in the Mountain biome.

You are Being Hunted

Biome: Mountain or Plains

Watch out for Wolves in this raid, for they will try to kill you for 120 seconds. These guys are vicious, so don’t underestimate them. Stay defensive and fight them off until you see the message: “The hunt is over.”

Packs of Wolves will only raid in a swarm after Bonemass has been defeated. Notably, they will only attack players in the Mountain or Plains biomes.

These are all of the different raid events that are currently in Valheim. We’ll be sure to update this list if any spawn conditions change, or if any new events are added in future updates.
