Tyler Ensrude, Multiplayer Level Designer for 343 Industries, took part in a Q&A on Halo Waypoint as part of the preview for the new Catalyst and Breaker maps. Catalyst is a symmetrical map that takes place inside a Forerunner structure and is suited for arena play. The Q&A mentions that Catalyst may remind players of Halo 5’s Coliseum or Haven from Halo 4. Ensrude mentions that the Halo 3 map Epitaph was their biggest influence.

Breaker is a pseudo symmetric map suited for Big Team Battle. Team bases are made up of a giant chunk of Banished ship debris. A plasma cutting beam divides the map in two. Originally starting as a map meant to expand the Capture The Flag roster, Breaker eventually morphed into its final form that we’ll see soon. It was designed to embrace the chaos and mayhem of Big Team Battle maps. “We love mixing environmental hazards with the Halo sandbox and breaker offers an exciting variety of ways to melt your enemy,” Ensrude added.

Alongside the new Catalyst and Breaker maps, the Halo Infinite Season 2 update will bring an update to King of the Hill and other game modes and limited-time events. The May 3rd release comes shortly after news of Certain Affinity becoming more integral to the future development of Halo.
