Fans eagerly awaiting their Witcher 3 next-gen update won’t have to wait much longer. The critically acclaimed game taps into the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S next month.

An update for PC will go live as well.

CD Projekt RED made the announcement today via press release.

The Witcher 3 update brings “dozens of visual, performance, and technical enhancements.” Highlighted features include faster console load times, ray tracings support, mod integration, and more. The Witcher 3 next-gen update will also include DLC inspired by the Netflix Witcher series.

This update will be free to anyone who already owns a current version of the game. For those that do not currently own The Witcher 3, a dedicated next-gen version will be made available for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will be available digitally and have a physical release at a later date.

Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One owners will receive some love, too. Those versions of Witcher 3 will receive the Netflix-themed DLC and additional updates and improvements to game performance. A release date for the old-generation update is not available.

It’s a great time to be a fan of The Witcher. In addition to the Witcher 3 next-gen update, several other Witcher projects are currently in development.

There’s More Than Just the Witcher 3 Next-gen Update in the Pipeline

A new Witcher game is in development using Unreal Engine 5. According to CD Projekt RED, it will begin a new saga of The Witcher franchise. Also being developed in Unreal Engine 5 is a remake of the original Witcher game. First released in 2007 for PC, the remake will give fans a chance to relive Geralt’s earliest adventures.

“Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting,” said Head of Studio at CD Projekt RED Adam Badowski, “as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”

Season 3 of the Witcher Netflix series has been in production this year. This is the last season with Henry Cavill playing Geralt. Liam Hemsworth will be taking the role for Season 4.
