MLB The Show 22 is coming on April 5th. It will feature all-world Los Angeles Angel Shohei Ohtani as the cover athlete and release on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. This is the first time the franchise will appear on a Nintendo system. Last year, the formerly PlayStation exclusive series debuted for the Xbox platform. It will, once again, be a day one Game Pass title.
Not much was released about what to expect from this year’s premiere baseball video game. The Xbox News Wire release detailed cross-platform play, cross saves, and cross-progression. The MLB The Show 22 website teases the following.
“Experience faster, deeper and more intense moment-to-moment match action on the field, with a variety of game modes for all you rookie players and returning seasoned vets.”
Last year’s big focus was on being a two-way player, just like Shohei Ohtani. I’d be shocked if there’s no continued emphasis on that during the Road to the Show campaign this year.
Ohtani spoke with ESPN about what it means to be on the game’s cover. “I was very excited about the possibility and it actually came true,” he said through an interpreter. “This game has a lot of history. It’s one of the only baseball games that has been out here, so it makes me want to get better on the field and live up to the hype.” He is the first Asian athlete to grace the game’s cover.
We’ll have more coverage for MLB The Show 22 as we approach its April 5th release.
