Thanks to the technology of the Joycon, you can now bring your Mario Golf: Super Rush gameplay experience to a whole new level. Instead of just pressing buttons to golf, you can use motion controls to feel like you’re actually in the Mushroom Kingdom hitting balls with your favorite characters. Here’s how to enable the feature and how it works.
How to Use Motion Controls in Mario Golf: Super Rush
To enable motion controls in Mario Golf: Super Rush simply set up a game like normal and on the “Play Style” menu select “Motion Controls” instead of “Button Controls.” From there simply finish setting up the round, select which Joycon you’d like to use (left or right), and then you’ll be ready to go.
As mentioned above, you can use either the left or right Joycon, whichever you’re more comfortable with. Or if you’re playing with multiple players, each player can use one. In terms of the actual Joycon motion controls, it’s fairly straightforward:
- L/R: Practice Swing
- SL/SR: Shot Button
- LS/RS (side to side): Aim Shot
- LS/RS (up and down): Change Club
- Up Arrow/X Button: Top View
- Left Arrow/Y Button: Range Finder
When you get ready to swing, be sure you bring the clubface all the way down the ball, otherwise, you won’t be able to take a swing at the ball. Further, learning how much power to use, especially when you’re approaching the green can be tricky when you’re just starting out. However, after the first few times of using motion controls in Mario Golf: Super Rush, you should get the hang of it.
How to Use the Range Finder Motion Controls
Aside from the motion control playstyle, you can also use it with your Range Finder to scope out the green. Once you can hit your shot onto the green, you’ll be able to pull up the Range Finder to see what lies ahead. Doing so will tell you things like distance, elevation, and more. However, you cannot use the Range Finder in official tournament play.
As far as controls go, if you’re already playing with motion controls, simply press the left arrow or the Y button to use the Range Finder. Alternatively, if you’re playing with button controls, simply press the R button to use the Range Finder. Just remember, you can only use it when you’re a shot away from the green.
To take it a step further, the Range Finder itself will use motion controls as its default setting. So simply move your Joycon around to move the Range Finder around. However, if you’d rather control it with the RS, you can turn off the Range Finder motion controls in the settings.
That should be everything you need to know about motion controls in Mario Golf: Super Rush. Like everything, you may need a bit of practice to get the hang of it, but it’s not too difficult. Before you go, be sure to check out some of our other golfing guides:
