Many large gaming companies have decided to incorporate NFTs into their games. Ubisoft has gone the farthest, incorporating a crypto program they call Quartz. Other game publishers like Konami and Square Enix have also gotten in on the action.

These companies made the decision to incorporate non-fungible tokens despite widespread backlash from gamers. Reaction to the Ubisoft announcement of Quartz was so negative that the company pulled the video down from their YouTube page.

Some developers are now deciding to get ahead of the controversy by promising to not incorporate the technology. Ghost Town Games, the company behind Overcooked, made one of those promises this week. The company tweeted on Tuesday morning:

“We at Ghost Town Games just wanted to reassure you all that Overcook (and any of our future games) will never engage with NFTs. We don’t support NFTs. We think they carry too great an environment and social cost. We also want to ask folk to be kind when voicing their concerns to their friendly neighborhood community managers.”

While Ghost Town is the latest developer to make this type of statement, they are not the first. GSC Game World, best known for the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series of games, tweeted last in mid-December:”

Based on feedback we’ve received, we’ve made a decision to cancel anything NFT-related in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. The interests of our fans and players are the top priority for the team. We’re making this game for you to enjoy – whatever the cost is. If you care, we care too.”
