A new video with Pokemon Legends: Arceus gameplay was released by Nintendo today. It showcases 13 minutes of new footage for the first time.

Fresh off selling over six million copies of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Pokemon franchise has its next release rapidly approaching. Nintendo has given us a glimpse into what to expect.

Taking place in the Hisui region, Pokemon Legends: Arceus gives players a look at what the Sinnoh region used to look like. The gameplay video showcases the open area, allowing trainers to collect materials, craft items, and encounter wild Pokemon. By wild, I do mean wild; these Pokemon aren’t used to human interaction.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus Gameplay Preview

Battling wild Pokemon will sound familiar: the traditional turn-based combat the franchise is known for still exists. The one catch, though, is that wild Pokemon can directly attack you. Aggressive wild Pokemon in particular will pose a significant threat to the player.

Alpha Pokemon pose an even more significant threat. As you can guess by their name, they’re bigger and more dangerous versions of their “traditional” counterparts. The biggest danger in Pokémon Legends, though, is the Noble Pokemon. The Pokemon Legends: Arceus gameplay trailer highlights just how dangerous they are, but how important capturing them will be to progress through the game.

Of course, combat and battling Pokemon isn’t the only thing to do in Hisui. The Pokemon  Legends: Arceus gameplay trailer also showcases exploration, player customization options, and of course: catching ’em all.

Don’t forget, too, Pokemon Go fans; the newest season will be themed around Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus looks like an enjoyable new spin on the popular franchise. It will release on Nintendo Switch on January 28th. We’ll share more news and our thoughts on the game closer to the release date.
