The story of the Winters family has been displayed in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil: Village. With the upcoming release of the Shadows of Rose DLC on October 28th, that will all end.

Capcom’s Kento Kinoshita spoke with IGN at Tokyo Game Show concerning the upcoming story beats for the DLC. Kinoshita said they are “creating the Shadows of Rose story to conclude the Winters family saga.” This indicates that when we see the next mainline Resident Evil game release, it will presumably feature a new protagonist.

Released in 2017, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard introduced the faceless protagonist Ethan Winters. His story continued in 2021’s Resident Evil Village. Based on Kinoshita’s comments, it sounds like we’ll say goodbye to the Winters family with the upcoming DLC release next month.

Resident Evil Village’s story seemed clear-cut with Ethan Winters’s fate, yet some hypothesized that we’re not quite done with him yet. Either way, it sounds like Capcom is ready to close the chapter and move on to something new in the future.

The Gold Edition for Resident Evil Village releases on October 28th for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam. It will feature the Shadows of Rose DLC, starring Rose Winters as she enters teh consciousness of the Megamycete 16 years after the events of Resident Evil Village.
