Mario and his friends all have a maximum level they can individually attain in Super Mario RPG. As players make their way through Mario’s world, they’ll fight enemies, complete quests, and unlock secrets, all while gaining experience points. The more experience points obtained, the closer players will be to unlocking the Super Mario RPG characters’ max level.

The question that some may be wondering is this: What exactly is the max level in Super Mario RPG? It’s possible to reach the game’s max level for the characters before the end of the narrative, but how far can they go before the cutoff point? If you travel long enough in Mario’s world, players will discover how much they can progress for Mario and his pals.

The maximum level players can reach in Super Mario RPG is 30, which applies to all playable characters. Mario, Peach, Bowser, Geno, and Mallow can all reach level 30 in the game, at which points their stats will be capped. Level 30 also translates to 9,999 experience points if you’re counting XP for reference.

As players progress through Super Mario RPG, they’ll continuously level up their characters while administering one of three boosts in their stats: Physical, HP, and Magic. It’s important to note that re-speccing isn’t an option in Super Mario RPG, leaving all decisions final when leveling up your heroes. However, players will progressively unlock new abilities as they level up their characters, so there’s almost no need to respec stats.

Each character has their own set of special moves, which can be unlocked after reaching a certain level. Generally, Mario and his trustworthy party members will acquire all of their special moves before level 20, though each is unique:

Expert Tip

Additionally, players can equip pieces of armor like the Super Suit to boost their stats if they reach level 30 and wish to advance somehow on the battlefield. Regardless, level 30 is the highest Mario and his companions can go in Super Mario RPG.

Is Max Level Required for Post-Game Content?

The Super Mario RPG remake features post-game content where Mario’s journey hasn’t necessarily ended. After defeating Smithy and restoring the Star Road, multiple bosses will challenge Mario and friends to some rematches. These challenges are relatively tricky compared to the original showdowns, for the enemies are far more powerful this time around. For this reason, Super Mario RPG players should invest the time to increase their characters’ levels, potentially to the max.

Once players attain max levels for their characters, they’ll be ready to take on the game’s superboss, Culex, in a rematch. It’ll be the most brutal battle Mario, Peach, Bowser, Geno, and Mallow face in the game, so be sure to proceed with caution whenever you’re ready to take on the formidable enemy.
