The Outer Worlds Text

The Outer Worlds is one of the hottest RPGs to release thus far in 2019. With it filling a Fallout sized hole in the heart of players, there is loads of potential here. One thing some players have noticed as they’re playing through the game is that the text size is a little bit small. If you’ve been wondering about The Outer Worlds text size, specifically if it can be changed, here is what you need to know.

In 2019, most games have tons of different options that players can mess around with inside the settings menu. Things like turning captions on and off, and changing the text size have become staple within games. If you’ve found yourself having a hard time reading The Outer Worlds text, then you’re probably trying to figure out how to make the text bigger.

Unfortunately, in the current state, there doesn’t seem to be any way to increase the text size in The Outer Worlds on consoles. This means that if you’re having trouble reading the text, there really isn’t much you can do at the current moment in time if you’re playing on an Xbox One or PlayStation 4.

If you’re playing on PC, this might not be too big of a deal, as you’re likely close to your screen already. However, if you are having trouble, Reddit user u/ChocoTacoz, has found a way to adjust the Unreal Engine 4 settings to make the text a bit bigger.

Essentially, it’s a matter of going into the Unreal files and tweaking a few things. Here is how to change The Outer Worlds text size on PC.

  • Locate “Engine.INI” within Unreal Engine 4 script files
  • Add [/Script/Engine.UserInterfaceSettings] to the script
  • Then add “ApplicationScale=1.185”
  • Reboot your game and the text should now be a little bit bigger

Hopefully, this is something that Obsidian can look at in the future, and try to fix. While it isn’t affecting the whole community, it’s a pain for those who are having a hard time reading The Outer Worlds text. A simple option to toggle between sizes in the settings would be a huge gamechanger.
