In Valheim, the various materials that you can collect do different things. Some can make better houses, some allow you to craft items, and others can help you create more powerful weapons and armor. One of these materials that do the latter is iron, and it’s a material that you’re going to need if you want to progress through the game in a timely manner. So, just how do you get iron in Valheim?
How to Get Iron in Valheim
Just like one would imagine, in order to get iron, you’re going to need to do some mining. However, before you go digging, you’re actually going to need to get your hand on some scrap iron first. This is the stuff you smelt to get the real powerful crafting iron. To get this resource, you are going to need to mine some Muddy Scrap Piles. These are mostly found in the Sunken Crypt and Swamp biomes in your game’s unique seed.
This item can also be found inside Sunken Crypt Chests and underground in Swamps using a Wishbone. Oozers enemies can also drop this item with a drop rate of around 30%. Keep in mind that unlike other items in the game, scrap iron cannot be teleported.
Now that you have your material, you’re going to need to smelt it to get the good stuff. Get yourself to your smelter and make sure that it has coal as a fuel source. From there you can smelt this scrap into the real iron that you want. Keep in mind that it only takes one piece of scrap to make one brick of usable iron.
Now that you have the material that you want, you can make much better weapons and equipment than what you had before. This includes things like better pickaxes, better armor, and stronger weapons for you to fight the various monsters through the world of Valheim!
