The Xbox Game Pass is one of the best experiments in the idea of streaming services ever made. The ability to try out games for free, and play them to completion, is incredible. Even better, you can download these games directly to your console, meaning you won’t have to worry about streaming them at all. But, does that allow you to play Game Pass games offline? Or do you need a consistent connection to the internet to get your free game allowances? There’s only one way to find out…
Can You Play Xbox Game Pass Games Offline?
Yes, you can play Xbox Game Pass Games offline, but it requires a decent amount of fiddling. In order to play these games offline, you’ll need to designate your Xbox as your “Home Xbox,” which requires you to adjust some settings. Head to Settings, General, Personalization, then head to My Home Xbox. You can only use this option five times per account. However, on any Home Xbox, this will let you play downloaded Game Pass games offline (you’ll need to log in once every 30 days to ensure that your pass is still active, though!).
This is great but will require you to have enough space in your Xbox to download the games that you want. This might require either extra space, or cycling out your games for new ones whenever you finish one that you like. However, as long as your Xbox is your Home Xbox, you can play any Game Pass game offline that’s downloaded onto your console. That’s really nice!
The same thing goes for your PC; you just need to verify your Windows account every 30 days and then you can play these games offline.
Some of these games might have online requirements, however. Make sure the game is capable of being played offline before trying this out. This might seem obvious, but some games just tend to be stingy about always being online.
