Counter-strike: Global Offensive uses a ranking system designed to bring players of a similar skill rank together. These ranks do not match standard military nomenclature, but you can still rise through them with grit and determination. Despite this, new players might be looking towards the high-level achievements in CS:GO ranks; the levels that only the best of the best can play at. So, what are all of the ranks in CS:GO, and what is the order with which you will ascend?
All CS:GO Ranks In Order
The ranking system in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive goes from Silver 1 all the way up through Global Elite. For most players, the big jumps are from Silver to Gold, then from Gold to Master Guardian.
In order, the CS:GO ranks are:
- Silver I
- Silver II
- Silver III
- Silver IV
- Silver Elite
- Silver Elite Master
- Gold Nova I
- Gold Nova II
- Gold Nova III
- Gold Nova Master
- Master Guardian I
- Master Guardian II
- Master Guardian Elite
- Distinguished Master Guardian
- Legendary Eagle
- Legendary Eagle Master
- Supreme Master First Class
- Global Elite
Before you’re assigned your initial rank, you must first play 10 matches of competitive. These are placements, and if you’re new to the game, you’re more than likely be placed into Silver.
Of course, ranks are important in competitive CS:GO. Moving up from Silver to Gold to Master Guardian takes a lot of time. You can only play in competitive with friends that are five ranks above or below yours. These also form the brackets that you normally get matched against; silvers with silvers, golds with golds, etc. It’s not a foolproof matchmaking system, but those tend to be the trends.
After your placement matches, the wins and losses you earn in the future will be more important than general performance. You’ll still want to play your best! However, winning is critical to upgrading your rank. And that means teamwork is important if you want to start ranking up. Think about your teammates, mind your eco, and play to win.
