BioWare announced today that their upcoming Dragon Age game will be titled Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Dreadwolf will be the first game BioWare will release with new studio GM Gary McKay. He mentioned earlier this year the goal to rebuild BioWare’s reputation with their fans. Delivering a quality Dragon Age game can go a long way to doing that.

Continued development of the game also comes with the recent news of BioWare QA contractors looking to unionize. The Raven Software QA union vote was recently passed as Activision failed to recognize the union and illegally threatened staff. Electronic Arts, the parent company of BioWare, hasn’t commented on the matter.

So what does Dreadwolf exactly reference? Per BioWare, it’s not a what but more of a who.

Solas, the Dread Wolf. Some say he might be an ancient elven god, but some say not. Others say a betrayer of his people…or a savior who now seeks to rescue them at the cost of your world. His motives are inscrutable and his methods sometimes questionable, earning him a reputation as something of a trickster deity—a player of dark and dangerous games.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf will not release in 2022. Industry insider Jeff Grubb mentions that it’s “more than a year away.”

Despite its release being a ways off, BioWare teases that we’ll learn more about the game later this year. Whether or not that means we’ll learn more during one of the events of E3 the Summer of Gaming Festival of Announcements, or closer to the end of the year at possible The Game Awards, remains to be seen.

Dreadwolf is being developed alongside the next entry in the Mass Effect franchise. Dragon Age is further along in development, so expect that to release before Mass Effect.

Currently, there is no release date for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Hopefully, we won’t see the game release until it’s 100% ready.
