Best Planets and Moons for Outposts in Starfield

Starfield Best Planets and Moons for Outposts

The Spacefarer is nothing without their Outposts in Starfield, for the bases that they establish can help with resource management, planetary studies, and building a presence in the Settled Systems. With over 1,000 planets and moons to explore, players are free to set up their Outposts wherever they please, so long as planetary conditions allow you to safely build a base in space. Since there is so much to see in the Settled Systems, there’s a good number of systems that provide exceptional planets to construct an Outpost.

Starfield Best Planets and Moons for Outposts

Starfield players can search high and low for the best planets and moons for their Outposts, though this can quickly turn tedious since there’s already a lot to accomplish in the game. Completing quests, meeting unique NPCs, building ships, and other activities are to be considered, so it’s imperative to note which planets will suit the Spacefarer and Constellation best when it comes to constructing Outposts. This guide will go over a list of the best planets and moons that players can refer to when they’re traveling through the Settled Systems in search of suitable areas to build an Outpost.

Best Planets and Moons to Build an Outpost

When looking through the Starmap in Starfield, it’s easy to be quickly overwhelmed with the UI and range of star systems. There’s a lot to scroll through and navigate, so it’s important to consider the systems that are named, such as Alpha Centauri, Cheyenne, Narion, Sol, and more. These oftentimes contain popular cities, story-linked Outposts, Temples, and faction influences. Building an Outpost within a named system will provide easier accessibility, though it isn’t necessary.

Since there are so many systems to visit, we’re selecting ten planets and moons that are best suited for an Outpost. These stretch across the Settled Systems, so be sure to have your Grav Drives ready for some interstellar travel.

Do note that this list is not in order, for each planet/moon provides its fair share of resources, fauna, flora, weather conditions, and more to think about.

Starfield Defend Ship Storage

Jemison

Every Starfield player is familiar with planet Jemison of the Alpha Centauri star system. It’s home to The Lodge, found in the city of New Atlantis, where players will frequent as they work with Constellation on locating Artifacts. New Atlantis is also the capital of the United Colonies, where players can embark on missions with the UC Vanguard and UC System Defense (UC SysDef).

Since Jemison is arguably one of the more popular planets in the Settled Systems, establishing an Outpost will grant a few advantages for the players. There are eight types of flora, nine different kinds of fauna, and three planet traits to check out. Five resources are available on Jemison: Argon (Ar), Chlorine (Cl), Chlorosilanes (SiH3Cl), Lead (Pb), and Water (H20).

Porrima IV-D

Porrima IV-D is mostly oceanic, with several pieces of land providing landing spots. It’s a relatively quiet moon that orbits Porrima IV of the Porrima system. No fauna and no flora present, allowing the Spacefarer to freely build a base of operations; there are two planetary traits to study here as well.

Players can find the following eight resources on Porrima IV-D: Argon (Ar), Carboxylic Acids (R-COOH), Lead (Pb), Neon (Ne), Nickel (Ni), Plutonium (Pu), Uranium (U), and Water (H2).

Nesoi

Planet Nesoi is the first planet in the Olympus system, and it’s one of the more moderate planets to establish operations on. There are no moons that orbit the planet.

Upon scanning Nesoi, players will find two traits, eight types of fauna, and five kinds of flora. Nesoi is packed with resources, allowing the Spacefarer to harvest and collect eight: Argon (Ar), Benzene (C6H6), Carboxylic Acids (R-COOH), Iridium (Ir), Iron (Fe), Tantalum (Ta), Uranium (U), and Water (H20).

Not only is Nesoi notable for housing eight resources, but it’s also the location of The Almagest casino that orbits the planet. Be sure to pay a visit to the casino for a chance to obtain some loot.

Procyon III

Another oceanic planet on this list, Procyon III is the third planet that orbits the Procyon A system. Ten unique kinds of fauna roam the planet, with five types of flora to harvest. Additionally, there are three traits to scan while studying the planet.

The resources on Procyon III are Argon (Ar), Copper (Cu), Fluorine (F), Ionic Liquids (IL), Neon (Ne), Tetrafluorides (xF4), and Water (H20).

Cassiopeia

Cassiopeia is the first planet in the Eta Cassiopeia system, and its surface is quite moderate, allowing for easy traversal. Water is safe to extract here, notably.

Players can locate and scan six species of fauna, five strands of flora, and three traits to explore. The resources on Cassiopeia include Chlorine (Cl), Cobalt (Co), Copper (Cu), Fluorine (F), Nickel (Ni), and Water (H20).

Starfield Mantis and the Razorleaf

Expert Tip

As players build their Outposts, it’s important to fully scan and survey planets for data slates. These slates can be sold to a few NPCs who are interested in surveyed information, so be sure not to skip over the activity of collecting data.

Eridani II

Eridani II is another moderate planet that is absent of harsh planetary conditions. A full scan of the planet reveals seven types of fauna and seven kinds of flora, along with three planetary traits.

Resources on Eridani II involve the following: Chlorine (Cl), Cobalt (Co), Copper Cu), Fluorine (F), Gold (Au), Iron (Fe), Nickel (Ni), and Water (H20).

Zamka

Another moon on this list, Zamka orbits planet Olivas in the Alpha Centauri system, the same system that includes planet Jemison. It’s the fifth moon that orbits Olivas; Chawla, Hawley, Lovell, and Voss are the other moons that players can scan as they visit Zamka.

Resources on Zamka include the following: Cobalt (Co), Copper (Cu), Helium-3 (He-3), Iron (Fe), Nickel (Ni), Uranium (U), Vanadium (V), and Water (H20).

Eridani VII-C

Eridani VII-C is the third moon that orbits planet Eridani VII, and it’s one of the more quieter rocks to build a base on. With low gravity readings, no fauna and flora, and two traits to scan, there isn’t much to see on Eridani VII-C. It’s mainly useful for harvesting its resources: Aluminum (Al), Europium (Eu), Helium-3 (He-3), Lead (Pb), Titanium (Ti), Tungsten (W), Uranium (U), and Water (H20).

Tidacha I

Tidacha I is one of the more brutal planets to mention here. Its rough conditions will require the players to attain the Planetary Habitation Skill that will allow them to build Outposts on planets and moons with extreme conditions. Without it, the process won’t be permitted.

However, once the skill is under the players’ belts, they’ll discover rarer resources on the planet. These resources are Alkanes (HnCn), Aluminum (Al), Argon (Ar), Carboexlyic Acids (R-COOH), Chlorine (Cl), Hexatrinylaminylene (C6Hn), Iron (Fe), and Water (H20).

Kreet

The final pick of the list goes to the reliable moon of Anselon, Kreet. It’s located in the Narion system, and players actually visit during their first hours of Starfield. Because of this, it can be easy to quickly overlook as soon as players begin to explore more of the Settled Systems. It’s one of the safest moons to explore, and it’s a safe bet to rely on.

Kreet holds three types of fauna and three kinds of flora while displaying only one trait. Its resources include Alkanes (HnCn), Argon (Ar), Helium-3 (He-3), Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Neon (Ne), Silver (Ag), and Water (H20).

Starfield Outpost Location

Honorable Mention – Chthonia

Planet Chthonia may not seem incredibly helpful in terms of building an Outpost for resources, though its location is ideal for storage if players need a safe place to stash some items. Chthonia is home to The Den, a starstation where players can freely sell their ill-gotten goods without interference from authorities. The planet and The Den are located in the Wolf system.
