Welcome to Disney Dreamlight Valley, where friends can come together to fight the Forgetting. With famous faces like Mickey Mouse, Wall-E, and Merlin hanging around, it’s hard putting the controller down. There is so much adventure to enjoy here, and developer Gameloft is anticipating more players will join and experience the free-to-play game. But one question remains: if Disney Dreamlight Valley and Gameloft are charging players for Early Access gameplay, when will it become 100% free? How do the Founder’s Pack Editions work? When Does Disney Dreamlight Valley Become Free?
Depending on the current development status, Disney Dreamlight Valley is expected to launch sometime in 2023. The upcoming Lion King and Toy Story DLC will act as updates for Early Access, so there’s bound to be tons of content on the way. While there is no set date yet, players can expect more characters to arrive before the full release next year.
However, as with many free-to-play titles, Disney Dreamlight Valley won’t be completely free. The base game will remain untouched, and cosmetics will be the primary focus for microtransactions. It’s the additional expansive content that players will have to worry about. An inquiry via Gameloft’s support page asked: “What other ways are there to spend real money in Disney Dreamlight Valley?”
In short, the answer was, “After Early Access, we have plans to add paid expansions that will add significant content to the game, but this will not impact the original full game experience offered at launch.” What this could be referring to are the locked realms inside the Dream Castle. It’s hard to tell at this time since development is still ongoing. Nostalgic and deep-cut realms are probably in consideration, but we won’t know until Gameloft announces more updates down the line.
As for now, if you wish to play Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll either need an Xbox Game Pass account or a Founder’s Pack. It appears that Game Pass owners won’t have to pay extra to play the game, yet everyone else will need to purchase a Founder’s Pack. They come in three variants: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate. Each Pack comes with its share of cosmetics, decoration items, companions, motifs, and Moonstones. As long as you have one of these Packs, you’ll be able to access the game on your preferred platform.
