Did Roblox Servers Go Down Because of Free Chipotle Burritos?

Roblox Servers

Created in 2006, Roblox has steadily become one of the most popular games in the world. And with so many people spending more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that number has only increased. It was recently found that the game has 164 million monthly users.

Even with all those players, though, the game makers are always looking for more. So Roblox recently created a promotion with Chipotle. Up to 30,000 gamers could win free burritos by solving a maze.

Over the past number of hours, however, Roblox servers have been down, making playing the game nearly impossible. The company tweeted out, “We know you’re having issues using Roblox right now. We’re sorry and working hard to get things back to normal.” People are now wondering if the burrito promotion is responsible.

Game Informer’s Andrew Reiner writes, “We don’t know why Roblox is currently down, but the timing of it going offline for most players lines up with this promotion, leading us to believe a wave of players may be overloading the servers or there may be some problem with this new offering.”

Hopefully the game comes back on again soon, because the challenge seems incredibly fun. In the announcement for the game, Roblox wrote, “Dress up in a Chipotle-inspired costume and visit the cashier for free real burrito (first 30,000 people at 6:30 PM EST). Navigate the Boorito Maze by collecting real ingredients and avoiding monsters. Reach the maze’s center to get Free and exclusive daily items for your avatar!”
