Fans are reporting that Elden Ring hackers are invading their games to alter and corrupt save files. Of note, this issue is only relevant on PC; consoles seem to be unaffected.
Reported initially on the Elden Ring subreddit, the Elden Ring hackers use invasions to crash a game and enable a glitch for players to fall to their death permanently. This renders the game save to be completely useless. Thankfully, there are workarounds and fixes.
u/Draiganedig, who originally posted about the issue, details the fix:
Every time your game loads, you’ll get a split second before your “death”, and you must use it to press Alt + F4. This closes the game and allows you more time when you re-log back in to open your map.Source: Reddit
When you re-login, open your map using whatever key it’s bound to (It’s the touchpad on the PS5), press the button that opens the list of available Sites of Grace (Triangle on PS5, Y on Xbox) and spam your confirm button (X on PS5, A on Xbox).
Twitter user @EldenRingUpdate posted about the issue as well.
There are reports of the DIY fix working in the Reddit thread regarding the Elden Ring hackers. Players are testing it out and coming back with news of success.
At the time of this posting, neither FromSoftware nor Bandai Namco has publicly commented regarding the Elden Ring hackers. I imagine that a fix is currently being worked on. Once it goes live, we’ll be sure to let you know.
